About Me

My photo
Alisa Kashdan
I truly believe I am the luckiest girl in the world. At 23 years old, I've had more life-changing experiences than most do in an entire lifetime. From sailing around the world to dancing down Main Street USA, I have to wonder how this is all real.

What's Next?

For the first time in a while, I'm not really sure where my life is headed. I'll be heading to Florida after graduation to continue working for Disney, but in terms of major plans, all I know is that I want to make a difference. I'm not sure where, and I'm not sure how, but unknowing adventure is an idea I've definitely become more comfortable with over the years.

Brazil - Day 2

After arriving in Rio, we met our tour guide and boarded a bus to a
local Shantytown, which is most similar to the slums or the projects in
the U.S, but not entirely the same. A few people left the trip
immediately at the airport to do their own thing, but most stayed. When
we got there we ate breakfast at a woman's house (well, I didn't..but
everyone else did..yay gluten!) and then went on a 4 hour hike. The hike
was through this town, which was, like most shantytowns in Rio, situated
on a giant hill and taking up the whole thing. These houses are
make-shift style made of wood, or aluminum or whatever else might have
been found. There was trash and dog feces everywhere, and lots of
animals running around on the street and on the trees (we must have seen
at least 20 monkeys!). At the top we got a beautiful view of Rio and got
to see an old military base buried in the forest. After our hike we went
to the hotel to check-in and shower. I was in a triple with two other
girls who had left the tour already.

After showering, Dain, Paige (the other GF girl on the trip!), Ming and
I went and walked around a little bit and went on a hunt for some GF
junk food. Afterwards, we went to a steakhouse at the bottom of Sugar
Loaf Mountain called Porcao Rio with 15ish other SAS kids. The
restaurant was super pricey, but well worth it. It was an
all-you-can-eat Brazilian steakhouse where there was a buffet line with
salads and other side dishes and a sushi bar and the waiters brought
over other sides to the table while other servers came around with a
whole bunch of different meats which you could say yes or no to. There
was filet minion, prime rib, chicken sausages and a whole bunch of other
really nice meats, in addition to some less normal ones like pig and
chicken hearts. I showed the waiter my dining card and he walked Paige
and I through the buffet line. Most of it was GF, and so were all but
one of the meats. Though I didn't try any hearts, the stuff I did have
was really good. We went at sunset so we got an amazing view of the
mountain and the Christ the Redeemer statue too. The bill for me 119
reals, and all I had to drink was 2 bottles of water, so I imagine with
alcohol and deserts this could be very, very high. But I'm glad I did it
because who knows if I'll ever be in Rio again and it was quite
delicious. After dinner all of us walked around Rio for a while before
ending up at a bar on the beach.

Despite what it may sound like above, it was actually a really busy day
and I had an absolute blast!
